Dr. Billie Winegard
Billie A. Winegard, MD, MPH is a graduate of The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix in 2012. It was during this time that she discovered her love in caring for and finding connection with kids and their families. This led her to complete a pediatric residency at Phoenix Children's/Maricopa Medical Center in 2015 and a fellowship in Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Medicine from Nemours Children’s Hospital in 2016. She had the honor of bringing Pediatric Palliative Care to central Illinois at the Children’s Hospital of Illinois before moving back to Arizona where she serves as an attending physician at Phoenix Children's and as a Pediatric Physician for Hospice of Valley. In these roles, she works closely with the interdisciplinary teams as the physician lead for the Perinatal Palliative Care Programs for both organizations.
Mitchel Cohen
Mitchel Cohen, CCLS, MSC, M. Ed, CPST Pediatric Respite, Hospice, Palliative Care Ryan House and Hospice of the Valley Mitchel Cohen is a graduate of Arizona State University with a double major in Biology and Education in 2008. Deciding to not go to Med School, he became a teacher while getting his master’s in educational leadership. While teaching, he found a passion for children with life-limiting diagnosis and conditions and started a summer camp for children with special needs. After leaving the teaching field, he decided to go back to school to complete a master’s in counseling with an emphasis in autism. At that time, his very close family friend’s daughter was diagnosed with cancer and Mitch soon learned about the field of Child Life. Once finishing his master’s in counseling, he soon found himself wanting to switch careers again and get into the child life field. He started and completed his child life internship in the fall of 2015 at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County. He then took a job following his internship for another year in Orange County, before deciding to move back to Arizona. Once coming back to Arizona, he quickly got a job working as a CCLS at the county hospital working in pediatric burn and trauma. When COVID hit, it was time to change roles and started with Hospice of the Valley and Ryan House. During his current role at Ryan House, he works closely with the interdisciplinary teams as the only CCLS in supporting all the pediatric palliative and hospice patients in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. He has been helping support more families within the perinatal program over the past few years.
