Dr. Agnes Donnelly
Agnes Donnelly is a current Fellow of Child Neurology at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, where she completed her pediatrics residency after earning her MD from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Her clinical and academic interests center on improving care for children with neurologic conditions, with a particular focus on neurodiversity, patient-centered communication, and advancing anti-ableist approaches to healthcare. An active advocate for disability inclusion in medical education, she has collaborated with faculty to integrate disability-related curricula into undergraduate medical education. She has an active interest in bioethics and was recently invited to speak at the annual Pediatric Academic Society Meeting in Boston to discuss her published essay exploring attitudes towards miracles & religion in medicine. She started her journey to healthcare as a Child Life volunteer in college, so she is very excited to talk about Child Life’s role in the treatment of neurologic diseases!
Katherine "Kat" Silva
Katherine Silva is a Certified Child Life Specialist at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, where she serves as the Neuromuscular Child Life Specialist. She began her Child Life career in Miami, Florida, providing psychosocial support to children and families on an inpatient medical-surgical unit and in the outpatient surgery setting before transitioning to her current specialty role in Chicago. Katherine's clinical interests include procedural preparation and support, family-centered care, psychosocial support for children with chronic and complex medical conditions and promoting positive healthcare experiences through developmentally appropriate interventions. As a bilingual Child Life Specialist, she is passionate about advancing equitable, family-centered care by fostering inclusive communication, advocating for culturally responsive practices, and empowering patients and families to actively participate in their healthcare experiences. She is excited to share the unique role Child Life plays in supporting children with neuromuscular disorders and the impact Child Life Specialists have in fostering coping, resilience, and collaboration within interdisciplinary care teams.
