Alma Olavarria Gallegos holds a Bachelors of Critical Theory and Social Justice from Occidental College. Alma works as the Policy Specialists at Openlands, where she plans and implements policy agendas, serves on multiple campaigns and coalitions, and analyzes and drafts ordinances. She is an expert in project management, community education, and facilitation. Alma has worked for Access Living and Pegasus Legal Services for Children, where she worked with the people with disabilities and immigrants to advocate for essential services. While leading the Disability and Immigration Taskforce of Illinois she assisted in providing bilingual educational resources for immigrants with disabilities.
Michelle Garcia is the Manager of Organizing and Community Development (MOCD). She holds a leadership position within Access Living's Advocacy Department. Michelle has worked for Access Living since 2009 when she joined the staff as the Latinx Community Organizer. Michelle was responsible for increasing the number of Latinx leaders with disabilities and raising awareness in the Latinx community around disability issues, including immigration and healthcare.
