Instructors
Dr. Jocelyn Wilder
Dr. Jocelyn Wilder holds a MPH in community health science and received her Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of Illinois Chicago. She is the Executive Director of Research at The HAP Foundation. Dr. Wilder has 10 years of the experience as a social epidemiologist researching the effects of structural racism throughout the life course of health and wellness. Her research focuses on the social determinants of health (SDoH) and wellness and the intersection between structural racism and spatial disparities, the intersection of institutions' policies, behaviors, and resources availability and accessibility. Dr. Wilder has extensive experience in community-engaged research, quantitative methodologies and analyses, and geospatial methodologies and analyses.
Kim Downing
Kim Downing earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from St Jon Fisher College. She obtained her Juris Doctor from DePaul University's College of Law. Kim is currently working toward her doctorate in Public Health in leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Kim is the Executive Director of A Giving Heart Foundation, where she works to build national recognition of their mission to transform the future of children with congenital heart disease. Kim was the Executive Director of Program Evaluation and Research at the HAP Foundation prior to joining AGHF, where she coordinated and led multi-institutional research projects with a concentration on activities that emphasized a community engaged research model. Kim also served as the first Executive Director of the Greater Illinois Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition between 2007 and 2018.
Kandis Draw
Kandis obtained her Master of Arts is Public Service Leadership from Loyola University Chicago. Kandis is a certified community health worker. She is the Senior Community Education Associate at the HAP Foundation, where she works to improve public health education and advocate for resources for individuals with serious illnesses, with a focus on end-of-life care and health equity for underserved communities. Kandis was recognized with the 2022 American Public Health Association CHW Section Leader of the Year Award She also received the 2024 Health and Medicine Policy Group Emerging Leader Award for Health Justice.
