Instructor 2

Katie Brown

Katie Brown is a certified oncology patient navigator and certified caregiving consultant who has dedicated her career to supporting lung cancer patients, caregivers, and survivors. She became a cancer survivor in 1994 at age 22 after being diagnosed with cervical cancer, and later served as a caregiver to her father, who was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in 2002. Katie served as Senior Vice President of Support and Survivorship at the LUNGevity Foundation for 12 years until August 2022. In that role, she oversaw programs that connected patients and caregivers with peer support, education, and advocacy resources. She is credited with helping create and expand the Lifeline Support Program, which matches newly diagnosed lung cancer patients and caregivers with trained “Lifeline Support Partners” for one-on-one mentorship via email or phone. These partners provide practical and emotional support, helping patients navigate treatment logistics, communication with providers, and emotional challenges. Under her leadership, LUNGevity’s online support community, the Lung Cancer Support Community (LCSC), grew into the largest and first online network for anyone affected by lung cancer, with over 10,000 members, 450,000 postings, and millions of monthly visits. She also championed peer-to-peer support, mindfulness practices, and patient advocacy, emphasizing the importance of survivors “paying it forward” to help others.
